Crystal candle holders are an elegant addition to any table or centerpiece until they become covered in soot and wax residue. The longer you burn a candle and allow it to melt down near the candle holder base, the more wax and black scorching you will get. You can clean them with relative ease, although you do want to use care in handling them. Crystal is most likely damaged while being handled, so be careful.
Pour a dime size amount of dish washing liquid into one of the bowls and add warm water so the water is sudsy.
Submerge the candle holder in the water. The heat from the water should begin to melt any residual wax and allow you to scrap it off with your fingernail. If the water isn't warm enough, submerge the holder in a second bowl with hot water. (Only do this after allowing it to warm in the warm water. Sudden changes in temperature can cause damage to the crystal.)
Wipe the crystal with a soft sponge. The soot should come off with gently strokes in the warm water.
Dry the crystal with a cotton towel or another fabric that is lint-free to prevent water marks and mineral deposits from dulling the crystal.
